蒙盖拉女士，联合国副秘书长奇塔尼先生，尊敬的代表和来宾们：

I

would

like

to

thank

the

Secretary

General

for

inviting

me

to

be

part

of

this

important

United

Nations

Fourth

World

Conference

on

Women.

This

is

truly

a

celebration,a

celebration

of

the

contributions

women

make

in

every

aspect

of

life:

in

the

home,on

the

job,in

the

community,as

mothers,wives,sisters,daughters,learners,workers,citizens,and

leaders.

感谢联合国秘书长邀请我参加这次联合国第四次妇女大会，这是一次阵阵韩国的盛典――妇女作为母亲，妻子，姐妹，女儿，学生，工人，公民和领导在生活的方方面面：家庭中，工作中和社会上所做的贡献的庆典。

It

is

also

a

coming

together,much

the

way

women

come

together

every

day

in

every

country.

We

come

together

in

fields

and

factories,in

village

markets

and

supermarkets,in

living

rooms

and

board

rooms.

这也是一次聚会，如同每个国家的妇女每天都在发生的聚会，我们在田野和工厂里聚会，我们在乡村市场和超级市场里聚会，我们在起居室和会议室里聚会。

Whether

it

is

while

playing

with

our

children

in

the

park,or

washing

clothes

in

a

river,or

taking

a

break

at

the

office

water

cooler,we

come

together

and

talk

about

our

aspirations

and

concern.

And

time

and

again,our

talk

turns

to

our

children

and

our

families.

However

different

we

may

appear,there

is

far

more

that

unites

us

than

pides

us.

We

share

a

common

future,and

we

are

here

to

find

common

ground

so

that

we

may

help

bring

new

dignity

and

respect

to

women

and

girls

all

over

the

world,and

in

so

doing

bring

new

strength

and

stability

to

families

as

well.

无论是和孩子在公园里玩耍，或是在河水中洗衣，还是在公司饮水处的小憩，我们聚在一起，谈着我们的渴望和关注。一次又一次，我们的话题转到孩子与家庭。无论我们之间可能会是多么的不同，但共同之处总要比不同之处多的多。我们分享着一个共同的未来，来到这里寻找共同的立场共同的土壤，以使我们可能帮助世界各地的妇女和女孩们赢得崭新的尊严与尊重。这个工作，也会进一步给家庭带去新的活力与稳定。

Beijing,we

are

focusing

world

attention

on

issues

that

matter

most

in

our

lives

--

the

lives

of

women

and

their

families:

access

to

education,health

care,jobs

and

credit,the

chance

to

enjoy

basic

legal

and

human

rights

and

to

participate

fully

in

the

political

life

of

our

countries.

我们聚会在北京，令世界的焦点关注于妇女和家庭：涉及到教育、卫生保健、工作、信用、享受基本法律与人权以及在她们国家中充分参与政治生活的机会等等。

There

are

some

who

question

the

reason

for

this

conference.

Let

them

listen

to

the

voices

of

women

in

their

homes,nei***orhoods,and

workplaces.

There

are

some

who

wonder

whether

the

lives

of

women

and

girls

matter

to

economic

and

political

progress

around

the

globe.

Let

them

look

at

the

women

gathered

here

and

at

Huairou

--

the

homemakers

and

nurses,the

teachers

and

lawyers,the

policymakers

and

women

who

run

their

own

businesses.

this

that

compel

governments

and

peoples

everywhere

to

listen,look,and

face

the

world’s

most

pressing

problems.

Wasn’t

it

after

all

--

after

the

women’s

conference

in

Nairobi

ten

years

ago

that

the

world

focused

for

the

first

time

on

the

crisis

of

domestic

violence?

这样的大会会促使各国***与各地民众倾听、注意并面对世界最重要的问题。十年前在内罗毕的妇女大会之后，整个世界不是第一次关注到家庭暴力的危机吗？

Earlier

today,I

participated

in

a

World

Health

Organization

forum.

In

that

forum,we

talked

about

ways

that

government

officials,NGOs,and

inpidual

citizens

are

working

to

address

the

health

problems

of

women

and

girls.

今天早上，我参加了世界卫生组织论坛，会上***官员们、非***组织和个体民众们致力于解决妇女和女孩们的健康问题的工作方案。

Tomorrow,I

will

attend

a

gathering

of

the

United

Nations

Development

Fund

for

Women.

There,the

discussion

will

focus

on

local

--

and

highly

successful

--

programs

that

give

hard-working

women

access

to

credit

so

they

can

improve

their

own

lives

and

the

lives

of

their

families.

明天，我将参加一个为妇女设立联合国发展基金的会议，会上将集中讨论本地的一个非常成功的计划，该计划是为那些工作努力的妇女们提供赊购，使她们能够改善自己和家庭的生活。

What

we

are

learning

around

the

world

is

that

if

women

are

healthy

and

educated,their

families

will

flourish.

If

women

are

free

from

violence,their

families

will

flourish.

If

women

have

a

chance

to

work

and

earn

as

full

and

equal

partners

in

society,their

families

will

flourish.

And

when

families

flourish,communities

and

nations

do

as

well.

我们从世界各地学到的是，如果妇女们是健康的、受过教育的，她们的家庭会兴旺；如果妇女们远离了暴力，她们的家庭会兴旺。如果妇女有机会工作并且在社会中完全平等的获得报酬，她们的家庭会兴旺。而家庭兴旺了，社会与国家将会兴旺繁荣。

That

is

why

every

woman,every

man,every

child,every

family,and

every

nation

on

this

planet

does

have

a

stake

in

the

discussion

that

takes

place

here.

这就是为什么每个妇女、每个男人、每个孩子、每个家庭以及世界上的每个国家都应该关心这里锁发生的讨论。
